How to Track the AI Crypto Narrative
Learn to measure AI crypto narrative breadth, Bitcoin-relative strength, sector momentum, liquidity, concentration, and rotation without relying on a single token.
A narrative becomes more convincing when participation broadens. One token can create an impressive category return while most of the sector still trails Bitcoin.
Start with the benchmark
Crypto capital competes with Bitcoin. An AI token gaining 8% while Bitcoin gains 12% has risen in dollars but lost relative strength. Bitcoin-relative returns answer a more useful question: was the AI asset actually the stronger place to hold risk during the same period?
Measure breadth
Breadth is the percentage of tracked AI assets outperforming Bitcoin. The AI Crypto Market dashboard calculates this over 7 and 30 days for assets returned by the market category source.
- Below 40%: leadership is weak or concentrated.
- 40–59%: participation is mixed.
- 60% or more: AI leadership is relatively broad.
These bands are descriptive, not trading rules. Category composition, liquidity, and the chosen period affect the result.
Compare short and medium windows
Short-term participation is improving, but it has not yet changed the medium-term trend.
More assets are participating across both windows, which is stronger evidence of sector-wide momentum.
The established trend may still be positive, but fewer assets are sustaining recent relative strength.
Check concentration
Compare the category move with its leading assets. If the category is positive but only one or two large tokens outperform Bitcoin, the headline can exaggerate participation. Review the full leaderboard and the breadth percentage together.
Confirm liquidity and volume
Rising volume can confirm attention, but volume alone is not evidence of adoption. Check whether activity occurs across several liquid markets and whether price performance persists beyond a single day.
Place AI inside the wider market cycle
An AI-sector rally during high Bitcoin dominance may be an isolated narrative. The same rally during improving Altcoin Season Index breadth can be part of a wider rotation. Use the narrative dashboard to compare AI with DeFi, real-world assets, gaming, and other sectors.
A repeatable weekly process
- Record AI category market-cap change and volume.
- Compare 7-day and 30-day AI breadth.
- Review which assets contribute to the move.
- Compare AI with Bitcoin and the broader altcoin index.
- Check whether product or protocol news supports the price narrative.
- Write down what would invalidate your interpretation.
Limitations
Crypto categories are classifications rather than accounting standards. AI agents, decentralized compute, data markets, and DePIN overlap, and providers may update membership without notice. Breadth measures price participation; it does not measure technical quality, revenue, safety, or suitability for investment.
The dashboard uses CoinGecko category membership and compares each eligible asset’s return with Bitcoin over the same window. Stablecoins, wrapped assets, and similar non-comparable assets are excluded using the tracker’s published eligibility rules.
